About the role

We're hiring a Senior Australian Tax Accountant. You'll prepare and review financial statements and tax returns for SME clients, handle the complex tax matters, and support the advisory work. You'll work alongside an experienced team and manage your own client files. It suits someone analytical and detail-oriented who can manage multiple client files accurately.

What you'll do

  • Prepare and review financial statements, income tax returns, BAS and IAS for Australian SME clients: individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders
  • Prepare Div 7A, capital gains tax (CGT) and fringe benefits tax (FBT) workpapers and accounts
  • Develop tax planning strategies and help with investment advisory reports
  • Spot complex tax issues and escalate them for senior review
  • Finish your work on time and within budget
  • Keep workpapers, documentation and timesheets accurate
  • Take meeting notes, record the action items and follow them up
  • Follow the client's systems and processes

What we're looking for

Required:

  • At least 5 years as a Senior Australian Tax Accountant, with an Australian accounting firm or an outsourcing company supporting Australian firms
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian tax, compliance and SME accounting
  • Hands-on experience with Div 7A, CGT and FBT
  • Proficient in Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Clear written and spoken English
  • Able to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

Preferred:

  • CPA or equivalent professional qualification
